Convert Negative Into Digital Photo at Home

We all like to click photos to save some memories of our: tour, life event and many other. Today most of us uses digital cameras to shot photos, but earlier when there was no digital cameras we click photos with the help of camera in which we have to insert a film(reel) to store our photos as negative. Many of us today may today also have those negatives storing our Photos. But most of the time they looks waste as they look of no use to us, because if we have to get a photo out of it we have to go to Color lab to do so.

In this post we will discuss a simple a method to make a digital photograph out of that negative yourself. You may be thinking that it will require a technical skill, but in real it does not require any technical skill. Even a non-techy person can do this without anyone else. To demonstrate you on finding some in my home, i found out a negative.

So let get started, you’ll need following things:

1) DSLR camera(or even a simple still camera can do)

2) A transparent glass sheet(even a glass table can do)

3) One A4 size plain white paper.

4) Source of light(flash light or torch can do)

5) A tripod (don’t have then you can use any other object like blocks to give support for camera)(optional)

STEP 1:
Put the glass slab on two supports to give it proper stable base.The glass will need to be about 1ft. high.



STEP 2:
Put a flash light or torch on the back side of the glass so that light comes from the background of the negative and give correct image of negative to produce a digital photo from it. If you are using a flash light then set it according to the click of your camera so that it flashes when you are taking photo, it gives better result.



STEP 3:
Put the plain white A4 size sheet on the glass slab. It is used to block light from reaching directly on negative and do not hinder our photo of negative. White sheet is also used for one more reason as it give clear background and helps in taking correct picture of our negative as compared to and other colour sheet.



STEP 4
Insert your camera into tripod and keep the face of camera toward your object i.e. your negative. It helps in taking a clear pic of the negative as tripod remains more still than your hands. If don’t have tripod then you can use any other object like two blocks to give support for both sides of camera and if that is also not possible then you can use your hands to hold.



STEP 5:
All is ready! So take a photo of your negative and transfer its digital photo to your computer. Make sure your camera is still and surround light are of for best result. You should set your ISO as low as possible to reduce any noise or distortion.

STEP 6:
As you can see your photo don’t looks as a pic you want. Now just simply open the photo in MS Paint or any other program which support invert colour option like MS Power Point, Photoshop etc.



STEP 7:
Now right-click in the Photo, a menu will appear in this menu select invert option. DONE! Your pic is now converted into the Photo you wanted. Crop the photo according to your needs and store.




This was just a BASIC version of converting your negatives into real photo yourself and may not give desired result for your colour photo, but it suits best for Black and White photo.


We will be soon bringing ADVANCED version through which you can convert not only your black & white photo but also colour one with more clarity. Till then convert your black and white photo.

Sony and Panasonic to jointly develop 300GB optical discs.

According to the press release; Sony Corporation (‘Sony’) and Panasonic Corporation (‘Panasonic’) today announced that they have signed a basic agreement with the objective of jointly developing a next-generation standard for professional-use optical discs, with the objective of expanding their archive business for long-term digital data storage. Both companies aim to improve their development efficiency based on the technologies held by each respective company, and will target the development of an optical disc with recording capacity of at least 300GB by the end of 2015. Going forward, Sony and Panasonic will continue to hold discussions regarding the specifications and other items relating to the development of this new standard. 

Optical discs have excellent properties to protect them against the environment, such as dust-resistance and water-resistance, and can also withstand changes in temperature and humidity when stored. They also allow inter-generational compatibility between different formats, ensuring that data can continue to be read even as formats evolve. This makes them a robust medium for long-term storage of content. Both companies have previously developed products based on the Blu-ray™ format, leveraging the strengths of optical discs. However, both Sony and Panasonic recognized that optical discs will need to accommodate much larger volumes of storage in years to come given the expected future growth in the archive market, and responded by formulating this agreement. 

Sony previously commercialized a file-based optical disc archive system in September, 2012. Based on optical disc technology that Sony cultivated for its XDCAM series of professional broadcasting products, this system houses twelve optical discs within a compact cartridge as a single, high-capacity storage solution. Each disc within the cartridge holds 25GB capacity, offering a total range of storage capacities from 300GB to 1.5TB.

In July this year, Panasonic launched its ‘LB-DM9 series’ of optical disc storage devices. This series uses a dedicated magazine of just 20.8mm thickness to house twelve 100GB optical discs. A maximum of 90 magazines can be stored, providing a total storage capacity of 180TB. In addition, Panasonic adopted a newly-developed changer system together with RAID technology to offer rapid data transfer performance of up to 216MB/s, while also ensuring high reliability by protecting data from unforeseen faults.

In recent years, there has been an increasing need for archive capabilities, not only from video production industries, such as motion pictures and broadcasting, but also from cloud data centers that handle increasingly large volumes of data following the evolution in network services. Both Sony and Panasonic have a proven track record in developing Blu-ray Disc™ format technologies, and by actively promoting the adoption of a new standard for next-generation high-capacity optical discs, they intend to offer solutions that preserve valuable data for future generations.
