Microsoft to launch Windows 8.1 on 18th October

Microsoft's is going release the updated version of Windows 8 operating system, named Windows 8.1 on October 18(starting at 12:00am in New Zealand time). Windows 8.1 will begin rolling out worldwide as a free update for consumers already using Windows 8 through the Windows Store

Windows 8.1 will also be available at retail and on new devices starting on October 18th by market. For that Microsoft manufacturing partners are expected to receive the final RTM version of Windows 8.1 by the end of August, giving them time to prepare for the launch.

Windows 8.1 comes with some new features: new apps, new highlights, cloud connectivity with SkyDrive and also restored "Start" button missed by users. The switch between the modern and desktop interfaces will no longer be so jolting, and Windows 8.1 will even let you boot directly to the desktop.

A public preview of Windows 8.1 was made available on June 26.

At the time, Microsoft said it had planned after listening to customers. It will be good to see, what it listened from consumers.

Microsoft's also said to be coming with R2 versions of Windows Server 2012, System Center 2012 R2, and the latest update to Windows Intune being released at the same time as Windows 8.1 for business users.

Windows 8.1 comes just before Windows 8 celebrates its 1-year anniversary on October 26.

Microsoft launched Windows 8 last October in an effort to create a system that could be used on touch screen devices while also serving the users of traditional PCs. Though it got very lukewarm response to it.
